Seeking Home Buyer Applicants

Topeka Habitat for Humanity is looking for applicants who demonstrate the ability to pay a $550-$600 monthly mortgage.  Each applicant must, also,  meet specific criteria, which includes passing a credit and criminal background check.  We cater to families living at 60% Area Median Income.  If accepted, home buyers are obligated to perform 200-300 “sweat equity” hours, prior to occupying a home.  The selection process may take a few months, and securing the home can take up to a year.

Habitat for Humanity is a home ownership program that assists low-income families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing.  Habitat homes are sold for the cost of materials and contracted labor, and offer a no-interest mortgage.  The sale of  each Habitat home provides funding for the Habitat for Humanity program, as we continue to build or rehabilitate additional homes for families in need.  Homeowners are active partners, helping Habitat to accomplish their mission.

Topeka Habitat for Humanity has built or rehabilitated 7 7 homes, since 1985.  In addition, students enrolled in construction science classes, at our partner high schools (Seaman, Shawnee Heights and Washburn Rural), work on 3 new construction homes to be completed at the end of every school year.

Interested in applying?  Call Lynnette Potter (785) 234-4322 for details or stop by our offices at 2907 SW Topeka Blvd, in the Holiday Square Shopping Plaza.  We are open Tuesday-Friday, 8:30-5pm.
